Café de Jaren, open since 1990, is a bright and spacious café located in the centre of Amsterdam, between Muntplein and the Amsterdam Music Theatre on Waterlooplein. Inside, high-ceilinged spaces make an attractive setting for the bar and restaurant. And at the back, the first-floor balcony and sunny canal-side terrace on the Kloveniersburgwal offer views across the River Amstel. With its own jetty, the café can also be visited by boat.

Café de Jaren has been my favorite go to place for decades. The interior is the same as when it opened in the mid eighties and is still up to date with their tall ceilings, good lighting and tile work. The space is big, spreading out over 2 floors with room for bigger groups, two nice terraces looking out over Amsterdam's main canals and friendly staff. The food is simple yet tasty and I would recommend their lunch menu, Tom Kai Kai and their famous banana coconut pie. GooglePlace - January 2018

Came here hoping to have dinner upstairs for Christmas eve without having a reservation but it didn't work. Sat downstairs on the main floor beside the walk of glass looking out over the canal inside. Enjoyed a beer and yellow curry chicken with rice which was absolutely fabulous. Despite being disappointed about not being upstairs to enjoy a steak, I truly loved my experience here. The service is laid back but professional so I never felt rushed. I would have no hesitation to return here on another trip. GooglePlace - December 2017

Very busy cafe and popular with the locals. We sat on the small terrace outside which has nice views of the canals. Good beer and wine served up with hummus and bread. Relaxing and atmospheric. GooglePlace - November 2017

Lovely view of the Amstel river and is part of a hotel as well. Nice looking both inside and out and they have patios on the ground floor as well as the first for you to sit outside. I would recommend the outside space for the views. We had salads and the orange smoothie- made with the sour milk- all delicious and very fresh food. Service is a little slow but on a warm summer day time doesn't really matter :) they also have a salad bar which is self service for parties that would like to wrap up quicker.
