Description

Tips from the Net @ Ristorante Orcagna

Each of these fine overpriced establishments has a staff member sit outside and try to coax you in. It is amazing what they'll do to get you to sit down. The man beckons you with a warm smile saying "please, come sit, eat, drink, we have the best pasta, the best wine". I say, "what about desserts I love desserts" to which he responds "Yes, many desserts, the best in the city" then I say "What about pillows I want pillows and a blanket" he says "We give you pillows, as many as you want, only the softest pillows". I keep pushing it, "Opera singers, I want an opera singer while I eat", "We give you TWO opera singers" he responds. "I'd like my own pigeon as well can you bring me a pigeon?" To no surprise he says "I have JUST the pigeon for you, very nice, very beautiful in white." I look at him intently and say "Okay I think we'd like a seat" Boom he disappears and what do I do? Right next door is restaurant David and and I walk over to the man standing outside. "Hello" he says, "We have the best pasta, the best wine in the city, Come! join us!" "Oh!" I say, "Well that sounds just lovely, what else do you have?" As I begin my cantor the first man comes back to seat me the look of despair and betrayal on his face. Yet he didn't fault me but a turf war begins. As they are arguing the restaurant on the other side Restaurante Bargello has a man waiting on side beckoning passerbys to eat at their place. With the other two distracted I take 10 steps toward him and beckon him over. "Hello!" he says, "Would you like to eat with us tonight? We have the BEST pasta in the city, the BEST wine" I look at him surprised, "Oh! You do? What else do you have?" The End GooglePlace - January 2018

Since when is pasta boulognaise nothing but pasta with some mince meat thrown on top with no trace of sauce in sight. 1 star as 0 star is not possible. Big mistake going here. Rushed for time as was on an organised tour to Uffizi Gallery. This restaurant clearly survives by being very close to the gallery and the piazza and know that 99% of all its clients live in another country and are not going to be repeat customers, so the food they dish up is completely tasteless but to their credit is topped up with a 15% service charge. There is a "bread" charge of €2 to eat here (like a lot of places in Italy) but their bread is disgusting. I've seriously never eaten bread so vile and their staff didn't care to bring olive oil. Service is horrible, 15 mins from sitting down until getting acknowledgment from the staff. Food undercooked and mediocre tasting. Stay away from this restaurant. GooglePlace - June 2017
