Tips from the Net @ Hippopotamus

We visited the Hippopotamus about 3 times while we were in Paris. It is like a franchise streak house. The food was lovely and reasonably priced. The place is usually busy enough to have a good atmosphere but quiet enough that we had no problem getting a table. The best thing was that for the most part the staff spoke good enough English and they had a good English menu. The language barrier was more of an issue than I expected going to Paris. The staff were very friendly and I would recommend a visit to the hippopotamus. The only down points I could make are that the portion sizes are not very big and also I used one of the toilets when I was there and let's just say it left a lot to be desired! Not as expected.... food wasn’t good value for money, portions were misleadingly small, and we has this ‘mushroom and egg’ starter served to us cold, not to mention it looked nothing like the picture. The staff are friendly, but they only know minimal English so ordering was a bit of a hassle. GooglePlace - February 2018

Food was excellent but not enough staff so service was lacking. Food took ages to come. They say unlimited sides with our "shared" meat platter, but due to the slow service, our orders for more sides came only after we were done eating! And only 2 of the 6 sides came at that! We will go back because the food was good but at non-rush hour. GooglePlace - January 2018

I have been here 2 times with my girlfriend and we can’t complain about anything. Good food, staff members are pretty during their service; i really suggest it. It’s not so expensive. GooglePlace - December 2017

This was the most reasonably priced restaurant my family found in Paris. The French fries and onion rings were both the best I have ever had - crispy with not a hint of greasy taste or feel. The entrees were flavorful. The meat was cooked to the requested degree. The desserts were delicious. GooglePlace - December 2017
