Description

Alioto’s Restaurant, a San Francisco landmark located on Fisherman’s Wharf, is one of San Francisco’s oldest fine dining seafood restaurants specializing in traditional Sicilian recipes. To this day, the family name is closely associated with the City of San Fransisco itself. Alioto’s knows fish. The Restaurant began as a fresh fish stall on San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf in 1925. Since then, little has changed. Fish is still bought fresh daily by Alioto’s full time fish buyer. Alioto’s serves a tantalizing selection of fresh seafood, including sea bass, sand dabs, sole, swordfish, tuna, scallops, and Dungeness crab all caught locally, whenever possible. Alioto’s never skimps on the fish they purchase. Alioto’s fresh seafood is served charcoal grilled or griddle-fried. Or choose from Alioto’s Sicilian specialties that have been passed down the family. A favorite is Cioppino, a spicy tomato shellfish stew created by the restaurant’s founder, Rose Alioto. Or a Sicialian mixed grill, seafood cannelloni, shellfish risotto, or artichoke and arugula salad. Alioto’s San Francisco favorites include lightly pan-fried calamari that is unsurpassed, crab cakes, cracked crab, and homemade clam chowder. These dishes continue to be favorites of visitors and locals alike. Alioto’s restaurant is a culinary landmark that is still owned and operated by the descendants of the Nonna Rose Alioto who show the care and commitment of running a restaurant bearing their name. Oh, and our view is also famous.

Have been here several times BEFORE it was remodeled and menu changed. Over-priced, flavor lacking and very diasapointi ng experience! We all ordered something different There signature shrimp pasta consisted of over-cooked pasta and flavorless chewy shrimp. The combo platter was greasy and boring. We decided to cross this off our list. Cannot recommend. GooglePlace - August 2017

The service was really bad. The fries were the best I've ever had. The steak was ok. If you don't like those restaurants that take forever to make the food, well don't you worry! They take about 10-15 minutes to make it. But you have to ask for EVERYTHING! You have to ask for silverware, bread, EVERYTHING! GooglePlace - April 2017

Probably should have read the reviews before choosing to eat here. Most reviews are accurate with the less than satisfactory service i.e. waiter unavailable, once we did get a waiters attention and ordered food did arrive, there was a metal piece of brillo pad right in the middle of the entree. Tip: go next door for food. Empty tables here for a reason . GooglePlace - February 2017

Planned on eating upstairs at the finer restaurant but a very lovely server, Marella, took us under her wing when I was frantic trying to decide with a dying cell phone battery (she personally charged it for me). Her charm and dedication to proper good customer service was excellent. CJ, the manager on duty, also was very helpful and service-orientated. Thank you for the great dining experience and suggestions for other local eateries! GooglePlace - December 2016
