Description

The name Del Popolo means ‘of the people’ and stems from a belief in the simple and egalitarian nature of pizza. Located in San Francisco, with everything prepared in-house by owner and operator Jonathan Darsky who specializes in the pizza, along with Chef de Cuisine Jeffrey Hayden, who handles all other aspects of the menu, including the small plates the restaurant is known for, as well as the private events in The Garden. Darksy's thin and perfectly blistered crusts have been called out by The San Francisco Chronicle, 7x7, San Francisco Magazine, Gourmet, Food & Wine Magazine, The New York Times and Sunset Magazine among others. In addition, Del Popolo also has a mobile pizzeria designed to bring Neapolitan-inspired pizza to the people, rather than drawing them to a fixed location. Designed by Darsky, It features a 5,000-lb Stefano Ferrara wood-fired brick oven inside a deconstructed, modified transatlantic shipping container mounted to a Freightliner M2 truck. The end result is a glass-enclosed exhibition kitchen much as one might find in a restaurant.

Good pizza however we were told the wait was 1 hour but we had to wait 2 hours outside before having a table, I really encourage you to book a table. Despite this, the service was great and the atmosphere was very enjoyable. GooglePlace - November 2017

The pizza was a huge disappointment. Very SOGGY. Not sure why. It was charred but had no crispness whatsoever. Our server said it’s due to the high temperature of the wood burning oven. Huh??? The whole point of the wood burning oven is to get the perfect blend of crispness and chewiness. Complete failure here. The little gem salad was well prepared, but the grilled leeks were tough and oddly seasoned. We arrived at 5:20 to wait for an unreserved spot. We got a very nice table. The place was packed by 5:40. We waited slightly longer than expected for our first courses and way longer than expected for the pizza. GooglePlace - November 2017
