Description

Gioia Pizzeria, a very different pizza place from the owners Will and Karen Gioia helm in Berkeley. The lunch and dinner menus wander outside of pizza territory to sandwiches, entrees, pastas and desserts. The pizza here is billed as "East Coast-style thin crust" baked in a Montague gas oven. In the kitchen, executive chef Will is working with sous chef Ryan Cantwell, formerly of Eccolo and Chez Panisse. Cantwell's brother Dennis, who used to bartend at Zuni Cafe, is running the front of house. So you see, it's a family affair all around.

They took forever to deliver the pizza! Also the pinot wasn't full bodied and the rose wasn't oaky GooglePlace - August 2017

Amazing craft pizzas in a convenient spot on Polk St. with great decor. They also have a nice brunch that isn't as crowded as many of the other places around. The breakfast pasta on the brunch menu is definitely worth a try. This is also an easy place to get a reservation which is very helpful for a large group. GooglePlace - March 2017

I can confidently give this 5 stars. Two enthusiastic thumbs up. A+. This is San Francisco, CA pizza in its fullness, at its finest. This is the original Garibaldi's, so don't be fooled. Juliana's boasts the original oven, owner and recipes. We always get half margarita, half pepperoni. Fantastic. GooglePlace - February 2017

Deep dish pizza is a must. I also enjoyed the wings and salad. They offer Champ cocktails, I like the movie star which is ginger beer and champagne with a candied ginger garnish. I am definitely coming back to try their other deep dish pizzas. Kale app was amazing. Even though the place is small, it sucks that they have only one bathroom for females and males. Parking is street parking too. They have other locations so I may have to try the other locations. GooglePlace - February 2017
