HAPPY HOUR : Tues-Fri from 5:30p to 7:00p Izakaya Kou is taking the idea of the traditional Izakaya and turning it into the modern gathering place where we offer high quality Japanese fusion tapas and various unique drinking beverages in a comfortable, modern and fashionable atmosphere. It is a place where people can linger with good friends, good food, and drinks in the heart of San Francisco. Mission: To provide a dining experience of fulfilling all 5 senses - touch, sight, taste, smell and hearing for a memorable experience. Space: The restaurant has four sections: the bar, 4 Tatami rooms, lounge, and table seating. The bar can seat up to 10 people. Tatami rooms are for groups of people who want private gathering, and 4 rooms can hold up to 35 customers. Lounge area is for those who want casual dining, drinking, and socializing. This area can hold up to 15 patrons. Table seating is for those who want to enjoy both and food and drinks in open setting and it can hold up to 32 customers. About the name Hashibiro Kou is defined as: largest bird that can fly. The Hashibiro Kou bird is an endangered species and only a few remaining at the zoo in Japan. The bird is very unique, has charisma, with rich characteristics and lovable. We, Hashibiro Kou, will strive to be a unique and lovable place where you can experience Japanese tapas in SF.

We tried this place out and won't be going back. To begin, there was some weird stuff in our glasses of water that "come from the tap" but living in the area, my tap water does not look like that. Some of the sushi rolls were good however, some were falling apart. For them to be offering $250 private rooms I kind of expected better GooglePlace - December 2017

The staff is amazing. You can ask any number of questions to understand what you are ordering. They will help you out. The ambience is very cosy and warm. It can get loud with all the sake getting drink here. The food is very good. Try out the ramen, udon noodles. The Kou specials are unique. Loved the jalapeno poppers GooglePlace - December 2017
