I really enjoyed my lunch here. The food was right on target and made to order. I ordered the veal parmesan. I would come here and get it again. The service was prompt and what I noticed most about the place was the clearly the chef is experienced. The portions were perfect and the presentation of food types on the plate were balanced an thought through. It could be sheer repetition, but nonetheless they were good. The atmosphere does not strike me as Italian, but I generally do not care so much as long as it's inviting. My only complaint would be that it is cash only.....In today's economy especially in a large metropolitan area I do not understand the logic in this. If it's upcharge, bill it or note in on the menu. If I were dining clients and did not have cash on hand as I rarely do, I would need to look elsewhere.

Excellent as always. Reading some of the other reviews on here i have one comment: get real people. I simply fail to understand what some people expect of a place like this. They give diners a standard array of classic American favorites (try their weekly special beef stew) served quickly at a very, very good price, salad/soup and sourdough bread included. Become a regular like myself and they'll remember what you like and how you like it prepared. Come in expecting anything beyond what l described above and you'll set yourself up for disappointment. What's written on the side of the tin is precisely what you get. How common is that. Not very I say.

This wonderful restaurant is a San Francisco icon and has been around forever. It is not fancy and if you are expecting "fine dining " you will be disappointed. If however you want good food at reasonable prices than this is the place to be. The owner and chef is Henry himself. He is no frills and down to business. Henry along with his staff provide the best service possible. The menu selections are plentiful and the portions are huge. Be sure to check out the daily specials. This restaurant is in a "transition" area of the CITY and can appear worse than it is. Be open minded and adventuresome and you likely will have a very memorable experience.
