In 2013, Maruya opened in San Francisco's Mission District. It was one of the first restaurants in the district to offer a truly Edomae style sushi with its sleek sushi bar counter. With Chef Akifusa Tonai as the executive chef, his food presentation centers on sushi kaiseki. The menu are well-planned and it changes every few days. The fish are curated and most of the fish originate from Tsukiji Market, Tokyo, JPN.

Was there last night on 01/10 for omakase menu with't my partner Jim. Didn't disappoint us at all. Especially the freshly air flown fish from Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo and there is a big difference between the fresh and frozen when it comes to sushi fish. I requested a table but I will go back to the counter next time because it is fun to see professional sushi chefs performing sushi making. Great service! GooglePlace - January 2017
