I would rate zero stars if possible. While on vacation with our family we visited the beautiful and historic Chinatown on 10/21/17 and decided to have dinner at one of the many restaurants before heading back to our hotel. We found Penang Garden saw that they were recommended by the Food Network and decided we would eat there. Upon walking in we saw a sign that read "Please wait to be seated." We patiently waited for someone to approach us. During this time two women walked in past us and sat down. Still we stood there and waited. Finally, an older gentleman that was cutting/preparing some type of food (with no gloves mind you) asked us, "how many?" then proceeded to ring a bell and went right back to cutting/preparing the meal (again no gloves nor did he wash his hands). A man then rushed from the back to the front where we were waiting took one look at us and abruptly and rudely said with his hand in the air, "No more table!" We stood there confused for what seemed like an eternity. The restaurant was practically empty. Someone in our party quickly grabbed a menu and said, "Oh, they're probably closing." We soon realized that wasn't the case as the menu stated they closed at 10:30P and it was nearing 7:15P. It quickly became apparent that they did not want to serve us for one of two reasons: 1) The color of our skin and/or 2) We were two interracial couples. I cannot believe that another minority population could be so cruel to another. I am thankful that my 5yr old son is too young to understand what happened to us. I will NEVER forget the way that horrible man looked at us and how cruel and demeaning his tone was. I plan on contacting The Food Network to let them know of our experience and what kind of business they are helping promote. Stay away from this place as it seems that all they are serving up it what is wrong in this world, hatred and prejudice!! GooglePlace - October 2017

The service was bad and most of the food was terrible. The coconut prawns and roti were actually pretty good but the fried rice was disgusting and the hainan chicken was mediocre. In particular for the hainan chicken rice they don't really let you order white or dark meat (we had an argument with the waiter and finally gave in with half and half) and it was missing the chili and dark soy sauce as a sampling of the broth and the whole thing came out in a strange yellow color and over salted. There are bound to be much better options in this area, particularly if you're after hainan chicken rice which I always am. GooglePlace - July 2017
