Description

Haight-Ashbury is a district of San Francisco, California, named for the intersection of Haight and Ashbury streets. It is also called The Haight and The Upper Haight. The neighborhood is known for its history of, and being the origin of, hippie counterculture.LocationThe district generally encompasses the neighborhood surrounding Haight Street, bounded by Stanyan Street and Golden Gate Park on the west, Oak Street and the Golden Gate Park Panhandle on the north, Baker Street and Buena Vista Park to the east and Frederick Street and Ashbury Heights and Cole Valley neighborhoods to the south. The street names commemorate two early San Francisco leaders: Pioneer and exchange banker Henry Haight and Munroe Ashbury, a member of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors from 1864 to 1870. Both Haight and his nephew as well as Ashbury had a hand in the planning of the neighborhood, and, more importantly, nearby Golden Gate Park at its inception. The name "Upper Haight", used by locals, is in contrast to the Haight-Fillmore or Lower Haight district; the latter being lower in elevation and part of what was previously the principal African-American and Japanese neighborhoods in San Francisco's early years.

Love the tacos, but the place is too small. At least half the time I try to eat here I have to give up for lack of seating. So I rarely try. GooglePlace - December 2017

I am from Texas so I pretty much laughed at their "spicy sauce but the meet was good and the portion sizes were on the larger side. Overall, we enjoyed our food here after a long day of exploring the city. GooglePlace - November 2017

I always get the carnitas with hot salsa! 🌮 I've has this as tacos, 🌯 burrito, and a quesadilla. All of them are delicious but super burrito is best. Personally, I think the other fillings - chicken, steak, etc just aren't as good. However, my boyfriend swears by the steak. Meals are served with chips and salsa. Complete everything with a Coke. Delicious. GooglePlace - November 2017

EXCELLENT TORTILLAS. They're handmade, and definitely taste and smell like it. Pretty authentic tacos--cactus, shrimp, fish, carnitas, Al pastor, etc. They also have TexMex options too. Great service, nice salsa bar. GooglePlace - November 2017
