Vij's Rangoli
Vij's Rangoli We all know about the lineup that begins to build long before 5:00 at Vij's on 11th in Vancouver.  I've been in that situation before, but in my mind, it's worth it.  For those who ... continue Sherman's Food Adventures · Blog

Food is well executed. Ambiance is ok. Sensible portions. Menu isn't huge, but the choices are very tasty. GooglePlace - December 2017

If there were a 3.5, that's what I would give this place. Where Vijs felt cozy if not a bit subdued and let the dishes provide the decor/colour, Rangoli had been that Urban eat in/take out that was small, bustling and kind of like a little street market Hocker stand (embellished a bit). New Rangoli seems unfinished. It is neither interesting to look at or cozy. It feels like UBC/SFU type cafeteria in that the space is too open and devoid of style (although I like the lighting features). The host booth is just awkward and the flow is "off." The 3.5 stars goes right to the food because as always, it's great. I would like to see some mentions of Rangoli only offerings, perhaps test kitchen type bites that may make it to the big shows at Vijs and My Shanti. There is a real opportunity to make Rangoli special (maybe make food inspired by hawkers markets of india?). Right now it feels forgotten. With regards to the pricing, it is also missing the mark. The $17 average pricing makes it not economical to pick for a lunch and high enough that you may as well hit up Vijs for dinner. Does the restaurant want to be casual, fun and have innovative fare? Or is it just a subdued, cheaper (in aesthetics) version of the original icon that once dominated the local restaurant scene? Love Vij and everything he and Meeru touch, but I probably won't be back. Oh and cheap plug...go to My Shanti if you haven't yet. Unreal. GooglePlace - December 2017

Goo place. I think is a bit expensive but food is pretty good. I ordered pulled pork and it was very good. I just wish bread were more even pieces. One was too small. GooglePlace - December 2017

A late Saturday lunch was wonderful. The restaurant was not crowded, but the food was aromatic and fresh. GooglePlace - November 2017

Food was good, price was reasonable, menu at the time was a bit limited but you could tell what was on it was very well made. Would suggest going there if you want Indian food with a bit of flair if you're looking for traditional food if say maybe go somewhere else. GooglePlace - November 2017
