Eating a quality, delicious lunch at Al Gatto Nero was THE highlight meal of our entire trip to the Venice area! The owner created us warmly, the meal was exquisitely prepared and the setting (over looking the colorful canal) was "icing on the cake". GooglePlace - August 2017

First, seafood was great. Very tasty and incredibly fresh. The food was top notch. Second, service was awful. There was always 7 staff members standing around nearby literally doing nothing. Chatting and staring out at local commotion. How could we never get the attention of any of the waiters? Finally, why was it so difficult to get a seat? There were tons of open tables, lots of available staff, and the hostess couldn't communicate whether we could sit or not. After about 15 minutes, the manager allowed us to sit at one of the many open tables. This was after we asked another person for help. Go for the food, expect absolutely awful service. The Italian cuisine exemplifies the best of the local ingredients through simple and straightforward cooking and augmenting through spices and sauces, and Al Gazzettino does just that with the fresh seafood available in the Venetian lagoon. The luxurious lobster pasta came with a small yet sweet lobster on top of the pasta that has absorbed any sweet essence that escaped. Though disappointingly small-portioned for its €20 tag, the grilled fish was perhaps one of the freshest fish I had, and amazingly despite being grilled, the fish meat remained moist and flavorful. However, my favorite has to be the seafood risotto, which is by far the best I had with its creamy texture infused with the many seafood like prawn and clams. During our meal, we were also given some free surprises like the delicious potato gnocchi and dessert in the end. The service was a bit curt, but hey they got a lot of people to take care and we were taken care well enough! Besides in the end, we walked away with a bag of pasta and two bags of their awesome homemade cookies. GooglePlace - March 2017
